Hardwood Floor Care

Caring for your hardwood floor is easier than ever, thanks to today's modern finishes.

Spills & Spots -Since water is one of a wood floors worst enemies, get rid of water right away! Remove wet spills ASAP with
soft towels or a wet/dry vacuum, then dry thoroughly Immediately.

Vacuum or Sweep -once or twice a week depending on the foot traffic to remove dirt and sand.Use a soft brush attachment to minimize  scratching. Don't let sand and dirt build up.

Clean -After vacuum or sweep the area, apply the hardwood cleaner  with a damp sponge mop or terry cloth mop.No water rinse is necessary after this cleaner is applied. Wipe/mop the floor until it is dry- do not leave the floor wet ,  always mop the floor in direction of the wood grain.(The same way the floor runs )
Approved floor cleaners can be purchased online from your nearest Hardware Store or floor provider.

Protect - In areas of high traffic, use area rugs to keep wear to a minimum. Move the rugs occasionally to maintain an even  color to your finish. Make sure that the rugs have a backing with a mesh or grid pattern which allows the floor to breathe and are approved for hardwood floor finishes. Put mats at all entrances to keep dirt and moisture off the floor. Use felt pads, wide vinyl pads or rubber rollers on the legs of furniture.

Moving - When moving heavy furniture or appliances, place a sheet of Masonite or plywood under the piece being moved to distribute the weight and reduce denting or scratching. For light pieces use a clean blanket or a piece of carpet face down under the piece to be moved.

Be Aware - Of high heel shoes that have lost their protective cap and small stones as they can scratch and gouge your floor's surface. Excessive sunlight should be blocked with blinds or drapes. Wet mopping and excessive water can also be harmful to your floor.

Humidity - keeping the expansion  and contraction to the minimum is crusial.
Relative humidity ( in door humidity present in the air ) most be keep between 30%-50% year round . If moisture exceesds 50% a dehumidifier shold be use to bring moisture levels down , If the moisture drops below 30% a humidifier should be use to add moisture to the air,
Never shut off your heating, ventilation or air-conditioning system for long periods of time such as  summer  vacations. Try to keep a constant the temperature year round.
A humidity monitor can be purchase online  on your nearest hardware store or floor provider
